The Last Man on Earth: S2.E16 “Falling Slowly”

A ridiculous plot with some good jokes.

Title card for The Last Man on Earth tv show.

The episode “Falling Slowly” improved upon the last episode “Fourth Finger”  by adding a  better plot-line to the formula.

In this episode we got better jokes overall despite the same formula, this time with Tandy not telling Carol he loves her. Since Tandy and Carol had trouble conceiving, Carol suggests to Tandy that Todd impregnate her (by the traditional method) so Carol and Tandy can have a kid.

As usual Tandy makes it more ever worse by shafting Todd and having his own brother Mike a (played by Jason Sudeikis) as the sperm donor. All out of fear that Carol will fall in love with someone else.

The whole plot revolved around this awkward situation which worked.

Having Mike appear to fall in love with Carol, then Tandy be the super awkward third-party in the bedroom played to the Last Man on Earth’s strengths. Then for Tandy to tell Carol he loves her while she and Mike are in the middle of the act hit the spot (pun intended) of laughter.

Thankfully Tandy is not impotent which is a relief for the unlikable character.

As for the b-storyline it will be interesting to see an angry Todd. I’m looking forward to how his character reacts to being the second-best friend to Tandy.

The cliffhanger with the UAV also adds to the mix of who is still alive in this world and will join the gang in Malibu.

Overall this episode hit the mark well that ran on one joke the entire night.

Here are some of my other thoughts:

  • Todd doing the angry dancing is pretty funny.
  • The karaoke bit provided a good chuckle.
  • I liked how the group used “The picnic” to describe the awkward scene.
