Does the Battle of Greendale go down as one of the best episodes?
Community has once again proven why it’s one of the best shows on television right now, giving us the best episode of the season so far.
The two aspects that made this a classic episode were the complete silliness of the all-out war with pillows, and the PBS Civil War documentary commented by Keith David. The whole episode was cohesive but had a lot of details and homages mentioned throughout the story.
The best homage were the “letters home” retold through text messages and Facebook status updates. The details added even more laughs with touches like “very old student.” In addition, the use of still images further added to the enjoyment of the episode. Although a risky move, since it was used in about half of the episode, Community nailed it so that it was a strength.
Another story the episode touched on was the changing friendship between Troy and Abed. It touched on how they were both growing up and their adult friendship. It was perfectly capped with Troy and Abed fighting for hours after the war had ended. a touching story that was a nicely included into the overall story arc.
Overall, this was by far the best episode of the season. With its zany plot but perfect execution, this episode goes into the vault as a classic episode.
